How to take payments for tennis lessons in Ireland

The short answer

A tennis coach in Ireland can take payment before a session with a pay link on the booking page, or on the day in cash or by transfer. On laceup you add a Revolut link once and every new session shows a 'Pay with Revolut' button. The player pays you directly and laceup never holds the money. Bank transfer and card payments are not available on laceup yet.

A player hands you a fifty euro note for a thirty euro session. You have no change. Two sessions later you cannot say who paid, who owes you, and who promised to Revolut you on Friday.

Taking payment is not the hard part of coaching. Remembering it is. The fix is to decide how and when you get paid, say so on the page people book from, and stop negotiating it at the court gate.

How do tennis coaches in Ireland usually get paid?

Most take cash on the day, a bank transfer, or a payment app such as Revolut, and some ask for a block of sessions up front. None of these is wrong. The difference is when the money moves: before the session, it is settled before anyone turns up. On the day, you are chasing it.

When should you ask for payment?

Before the session, if you can. It is the simplest way to cut no-shows, because someone who has paid is more likely to turn up, and it saves you the awkward conversation afterwards. Pay on the day is fine for a regular group where everyone knows the rate. For a new player, ask first.

What should a booking page say about price?

Four things, in plain words: the price per session, whether blocks are cheaper, how and when to pay, and what happens if someone cancels late. A page that answers these stops most of the messages you would otherwise get.

  1. Open Getting paid in your coach profile, or in onboarding when you set up your page.
  2. Paste your Revolut link (revolut.me/yourname) or your @revtag.
  3. Create your sessions. Each new session copies your link when it is created.
  4. A player who books sees a 'Pay €30 with Revolut' button and a line saying they pay you directly.

Players do not need an account with laceup to book. You are paid straight to your Revolut and laceup never holds or touches the money.

What does laceup not do about payments?

A lot, and it is better to know now. It does not take card payments. It does not take bank transfers, although both are marked as coming soon in the app. It does not know who has paid, so you check your Revolut for that. It does not send receipts or invoices. And a session keeps the link it was created with, so if you change your Revolut link, sessions you already set up keep the old one.

How do you handle no-shows and late cancellations?

Pick a rule, write it on the page, and apply it the same way every time. laceup does not enforce it, but a rule people read before booking is much easier to keep than one you invent after the fact.

Common questions

Can I take card payments through laceup?
Not yet. Card payments are marked as coming soon in the app. Until then, the Revolut link is the only payment method laceup shows on a session.
Does laceup take a cut of what I charge?
No. The player pays you directly, and laceup never handles the payment, so there is nothing for it to take a cut of.
Do players need a Revolut account to pay me?
laceup's own setting says players never need a Revolut account to use your link. How the payment page behaves on their phone is up to Revolut.
How do I know who has paid?
Check your Revolut. laceup shows your price and the pay button but does not record whether a player has paid.
Do I need to declare what I earn from lessons?
That is a question for your accountant or Revenue. laceup does not give tax advice, and a pay link does not change what you owe.
